James Louie Ates

James Louie Ates, age 75, of Holt, Florida and Wing, Alabama passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 with his daughter, Pamela Lehman by his side. He was born December 22, 1948 in Crestview, Florida to Luther “Bud” and Effie Christine Ates of Holt. Louie was an avid fisherman, hunter, and farmer. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. As a young man he loved playing sports, especially basketball, then community softball, and alumna basketball games at Baker School.
James Louie is survived by his daughter, Pamela Lehman (Tyler) and grandsons, Jacob (Jaden), Joshua, and James (Lauren); brother, Jimmy; sister-in-law, Pat Ates (Luther); nephew, Scottie Ates (Amanda); niece, Terri Jo Matthews (Larry); ex-wife, mother of his daughter, Kathleen Register Ates; and many loving cousins, friends, and other family members. Special thanks to Chris Bryant and Carlton Palmer for your friendship and care these past few years.
James Louie is preceded in his death by his parents; his sister, Christine Money; and his brother, Luther Ates.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Good Hope Baptist Church located at 1895 Olin Cotton Rd. Baker, FL 32531.Visitation will start at 1:30 p.m. CT with a service to follow at 2:30. In lieu of flowers if able, please bring photos and stories of Louie for the family. If you wish to contribute towards his headstone, or leave a note or photo for the family, a box will be available for these at the service.
