Simon Alexander Banister, 81, Auburn, AL

Simon, an extraordinary Christian man, passed away at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of love.

Born January 9, 1942, in Calhoun County, AL, Simon attended JSU and was a long time business owner of Banister-Downing. His kindhearted nature was evident in every interaction. A devoted husband, father, and friend, he showed us the true meaning of unconditional love.

Simon’s relationship with Jesus was the foundation upon which he built his life, guiding his actions and shaping his character. He embodied love, forgiveness and humility.

Simon’s strong work ethic was an inspiration to all who knew him. His hard work was matched only by his boundless generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or kind word.

Simon is survived by so many who knew and loved him: His loving wife, Kaye Heptinstall Banister, of nearly 23 years; children: Angela Banister Schuessler (David); Bonus children: Ashley A. Wheeler (Mike), J. Rhett Wheeler (Holly), Laurie W. Hanson; Grandchildren: Simon Schuessler, Ruby Schuessler; Bonus grandchildren: John Horsley, Rhett Horsley, Grace Hanson, Tyler Hanson, Elizabeth Wheeler and William Wheeler. He also leaves behind stepchildren, Douglas Stewart, Sarah Stewart and Margaret Stewart, and many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 28 years, Evelyn Irwin Banister; his son, Simon Alexander “Alex” Banister; Brothers: William “Bill” Banister, Chris Banister and Grady Banister; Parents, Grady H. Banister and Mary Porter Banister.
Simon’s spirit lives on in the lives he touched and our hearts find solace through knowing he is in heaven.
