Stuart Armitage Burson
November 29, 1940-September 19, 2023
Stuart Armitage Burson of Autaugaville, Alabama passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023 at the age of 82 following a lengthy illness. Stuart is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 55 years, along with sisters-in-law Jeanne Tuley Burson and Margaret Wade Burson; special niece and nephew Leslie Burson Davis and Bruce B. Burson, Jr., as well as several other nieces and nephews. He had a true love for family and was especially proud of his great- and great-great- nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Margaret Beveridge and Russell N. Burson, as well as brothers Bruce and Russell, Jr.
Stuart was a Navy man who was never happier than when he was around water. He and Shirley spent many years on their trawler in the Chesapeake Bay area before bringing the “Maggie B” up the Alabama River to their home. They made many lifelong friends during their boating adventures. Stuart particularly loved get-togethers with his closest friends of over forty years. He enjoyed the friends made through volunteer work at the Autauga County Heritage Association preserving and cataloguing historical documents from the original Daniel Pratt Gin and Continental Gin Company. Stuart leaves behind many friends and family who knew and loved him. His sense of humor and positive outlook remained throughout his life.
A celebration of a life well lived will be held at a later date for friends and family. Donations may be made to the Prattville Autauga Humane Society (PAHS) at 1009 Reuben Road, Prattville, AL 36067.
